How to tell if a roofer is lying?

Check what they tell you against what they will show you and put in writing. A roofer who is being straight shows photographs of what failed, writes down the scope and the price, and hands over a licence number and a certificate of insurance without being pushed.

Red flags on insurance work: calling twenty years of wear storm damage, which sets you up for a denied claim. Offering to waive your deductible, which is asking you to defraud your insurer. Promising your claim will be approved, when only the insurer decides. Pressing you to sign over your claim benefits before you know what that means.

Red flags on the roof: a replacement quote with no photographs of what failed, an inspection that always ends in a new roof, a repair that is really a tube of sealant, and a price that will not go in writing before work starts.

Ask any roofer, us included, for the licence number, the certificate of insurance and the written scope. Then check the licence yourself.

Hold us to the same test. Ask for the photos, the written scope, the licence number and the certificate of insurance when you book.
