Government Program
Can Maryland's housing rehab program finance a new roof?
By All Purpose Anytime Services LLC
If the roof has failed, it can be part of what gets financed. The Maryland Housing Rehabilitation Program, run by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, provides financing to bring properties up to the building codes and standards that apply to them, and a failed roofing system falls under that.
What it finances
This is financing, a loan, and not a grant. It pays for work that brings a property up to applicable building codes and standards, and failed roofing systems are included. The program decides what qualifies and who gets the financing. Our information dates from October 2026.
Who to contact
Maryland DHCD runs it from 7800 Harkins Road, Lanham, MD. Ask them about eligibility, rates and how the money is paid out to the contractor.
How we can help
Maryland DHCD has not named us a participating contractor here, and the application stays between you and the department. Before you apply, we can climb up, take pictures of the failed areas, and put together a written estimate itemizing the tear-off, the decking rate per sheet, the underlayment, the flashing and the shingle.
We hold a Maryland contractor license, and our Home Improvement Contractor License number is 420226000078. It goes on every estimate so a lender or agency can check it. If the program lets you choose your contractor, we can do the work.
Services this program can pay for
A failed roofing system usually means replacing the roof, though code work sometimes stops at a repair of the failed section.
