Will Prince George's County help pay for my roof?

What the county programs offer

The county lists repair services worth up to $30,000, and up to $50,000 for households below 50 percent of area median income. HRAP also offers a 0 percent loan of up to $60,000 with no monthly payment.

Those numbers were current as of October 2026. The county and Habitat decide who is eligible and what each home gets.

Call Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland at 301-990-0014, extension 19. They can tell you whether your household fits, which program applies and what paperwork they will want.

Our part

Habitat and the county have not signed us up as a HOPP or HRAP contractor, and the application is something you file with them yourself. We can still help you go in informed. We go up on the roof, photograph what failed and send a written estimate that lists each item, so you know if you are asking for a repair or a whole roof.

A lot of the county's older houses have been reroofed over the top of the old shingles. In Capitol Heights it is common to find two or three layers, and that changes the price of any replacement. We count the layers on the first visit. If the program lets you choose who does the work, or you go ahead on your own, we can take the job.

Of the work we do, HOPP and HRAP list roofs, which here means repairing a roof or replacing one. The plumbing, electrical and heating parts of the program belong to other trades.
